Hot Import Nights came back to Chicago a few weeks ago. The show is not as big as it used to be, but it’s still one of the better shows of its kind. The show had a nice variety of cars, and I took lots of pictures.

Some of my favorite cars were ones that were more subtle. My favorite car might be the Infiniti G35 with the LS3 engine. The car doesn’t look that wild from the outside, but the engine is dead serious. The blue EG Civic hatchback is a car that I see a lot. I’m always impressed by how clean this car is.

The carbon fiber Scion FR-S was one of the wildest at the show. The car has had most of it’s stickers removed so it is a mix of highly modified while still being a little subtle. The Focus RS with the color-shifting paint was another favorite because it was eye-catching, while not overdone. It also has the performance to back up its looks. The White WRX is a wild car that I saw last year too. It had one of the biggest wings I’ve seen on a hatchback.

One of the big trends this year was Nissan Skyline GT-Rs. Since there are 25 year-old models out there, people are starting to import them a lot. The silver R32 was my favorite. That GT-R had a really classic look of a tuned Japanese car. The Paul Walker R34 was very nice too.

There has also been an increasing presence of classic Japanese cars at these import shows. The orange Mazda RX-3 was one of the cleanest cars in the whole show. The Datsun 510 powered by the S2000 was my favorite of the classics. I can only imagine how fun that car is. I’m sure the mk2 VW GTI with the 3.2L VR6 engine is a blast too.
