I went into the weekend knowing there were more auto events than I would be able to attend. There were multiple events being held for Porsche’s 75th anniversary, but there were also multiple meets and shows happening around the Chicago-area. The weather on Saturday was especially nice, so I knew I would be seeing cars cruising, or heading out to these events.

Satin white Maserati MC20 passing by on Ogden Ave in Westmont

I decided to go to the anniversary event at Napleton Porsche Westmont first. The 911 R and 918 Spyder I saw pared outside of the dealership was enough to tell me that there were some special cars. This stretch of Ogden Avenue is known having lots of dealerships, and that also includes a few high-end dealerships. Shortly after I arrived, I saw a beatuful Ferrari Roma drive by. That let me know that I should be ready to spot cars that might just pass by our location. When I saw a Maserati MC20 approaching later, I quickly changed my settings and got a nice shot of the car in motion.

While at the dealership, I met Konrad Wazny. We chatted for a bit about film photography and how harsh the light was at the time. I had a thought that the pictures we took in those conditions might look good it black and white. I tried the black and white treatment on my pic of the MC20, and I really liked it. I lost some details, like the light reflecting off the satin paint, but it also removed some distracting colors in the background and accentuated the lines on the supercar.

Silver Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG waiting in a turn lane

After leaving the dealership, I saw an SLS AMG convertible on the street. The regular gull-wing SLS AMG is one of my favorite cars ever, but the convertible is still a remarkable, and beautiful, car. My picture wasn’t world-shattering, but it was pretty good considering how quickly I got my camera ready to snap the pic.

Grey Corvette ZR1 rolling on the highway

On my way home, I saw a Corvette coming quickly on the highway. In this case, I used my new 16-35mm lens. The wide angle lens makes rollers easy. I cropped this picture to get a decent frame of the ZR1 as it passed. You can see the wheels in motion, but the background doesn’t have as much blur because I used a faster shutter speed. Expect more rollers from me, but the coolest shots are going to be when I have someone else driving the car. In those cases, I can try out lower angles and slower shutter speeds.
